Biography
Nicole Kornberg Jacobovici received her Bachelor of Arts (BA) from McGill University, Montreal and her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NASCAD), Halifax, Nova Scotia, where she majored in ceramics. Nicole then attended the University of Colorado, Boulder, Dept. of Ceramics. There she studied with Scott Chamberlin. Nicole’s style has been particularly inspired by her studies of Bronze Age Egyptian, Mycenaean, Etruscan and Israelite pottery. Her modern influences are Hans Coper, Lucie Rie and Shoji Hamada. Nicole is best known for her vase, bowl and platter forms. Noted art curator/scholar, Dr. Cinzia Chiari has described Nicole’s work as “exhibiting the power of the ancients in contemporary forms.” Nicole has exhibited in many venues including Boulder, Toronto, Tel Aviv and, most recently, as part of the EXVOTO: Per Arte Ricevuta in Milan and Florence, curated by Angelo Crespi. The EXVOTO ceramic vessel was featured in Chantecler jewelry’s Milan Exhibit.
October 11-14, 2022, Nicole had a solo exhibition in Jerusalem entitled: “Arteology: The Power of the Ancients in Contemporary Forms”. Sponsored by The Jerusalem Biennale, Bar-Kayma for Culture, Art, Music and Peace, City of David and the Israel Antiquities Authority, this was the first time in Israel that an art exhibition took place underground in a 2,700 year old active archaeological site, only meters from the Western Wall. Curated by Dr. Irit Ziffer, the exhibit created a dialogue between modern and ancient ceramics. Nicole’s exhibition received worldwide coverage:
